MYRIAM™ – light pink hybrid tea rose - Cocker

If You like classic, long-stem roses for cutting but want easy garden care, MYRIAM™ brings florist-style blooms to an Irish cottage front or small urban plot with surprisingly little fuss. Large, very double, pastel-pink flowers appear in generous flushes through the season, so even in a short Irish summer You enjoy repeat flowering despite rainfall, cool spells and soft, shifting light. The shrubs are naturally compact and almost thorn-free, making deadheading and pruning far more comfortable around children or a narrow path. As an own-root rose it grows steadily more dependable, building roots in year one, strong shoots in year two and full ornamental value by year three for a long-lived, stable feature. With dense dark foliage and strongly fragrant blooms, this hybrid tea fits beautifully into a “girly”, cottage-style border or a neat row along a Dublin terrace.

Usage options

Target area Reasoning
Cottage-style flower border near a path The upright, compact habit and large, pastel-pink blooms give classic structure without overpowering a small border, while the almost thornless stems make it easy to tend beside paths or seats; ideal for fragrance lovers and cautious first-time gardeners.
Cutting patch or dedicated rose row As a hybrid tea bred for exhibition-quality flowers, it provides long-stemmed, very double blooms that hold well in the vase and carry a strong, lasting scent, so a simple border row can supply regular indoor bouquets for enthusiastic home arrangers.
Low, formal front-garden hedge Planted at the suggested hedge spacing, the uniform, upright shrubs create a tidy, low screen with repeating pale-pink accents that soften railings or parking edges, suiting small city gardens that need order with a gentle, welcoming character.
Feature rose in a mixed shrub bed Set slightly apart at solitary spacing, its XL blooms and dark foliage stand out against evergreens and perennials, giving a reliable focal point that matures gracefully over the years in family gardens wanting one dependable rose centrepiece.
Large container on a sunny patio In a 40–50 litre pot with good drainage, its compact size and upright shape make maintenance straightforward, while the strongly scented flowers can be enjoyed up close on balconies or terraces valued by busy urban rose collectors.
Family garden with simple maintenance Moderate disease resistance and an own-root constitution mean steady growth and easy seasonal care, particularly as the plant moves from root-building to fuller flowering over its first three years, offering reassurance to time-poor home owners.
Atlantic-facing or rainy Irish plots Repeat flowering ensures a good display even when cool, damp spells interrupt sunshine, so You still enjoy waves of colour in exposed or showery spots along the west coast or in wet Dublin summers, supporting hopeful outdoor rose enthusiasts.
Safe, tactile rose area for children The almost thornless shoots reduce the risk of pricks when children pass or help with deadheading, while the soft pink colour feels gentle and friendly around play spaces, suiting family gardens wanting a kind, approachable rose for young helpers.

Styling ideas

  • Cottage-hedge charm – Line a low front boundary with MYRIAM™, backed by lavender and catmint for soft blues and fragrance – for city terrace owners seeking a pretty yet orderly welcome.
  • Pastel cutting strip – Plant a single row with airy gaura and white cosmos between bushes to supply romantic, easy-to-cut stems – for hobby florists who want homegrown bouquets.
  • Evergreen elegance – Combine MYRIAM™ with compact cherry laurel and small box balls for year-round structure highlighted by blush blooms – for neat, low-maintenance family front gardens.
  • Patio perfume pot – Grow one rose in a 50-litre terracotta container with trailing thyme and silver helichrysum spilling over the rim – for busy urban dwellers enjoying evening scent outdoors.
  • Romantic mixed border – Thread MYRIAM™ through a border of foxgloves, hardy geraniums and soft grasses to create a feminine, “girly” sweep of movement and bloom – for cottage-garden dreamers.

Technical cultivar profile
Parameter Data
Name and registration Hybrid tea rose, registered as COCgrand, marketed as Myriam™ Hybrid tea rose COCgrand; ARS exhibition name Myriam™, commercial group Rós taehibride, premium gold cultivar rating.
Origin and breeding Bred by Anne Gowens Cocker in Scotland from ‘Typhoo Tea’ × ‘Grandpa Dickson’; introduced and first distributed by James Cocker & Sons in 1990 as a garden and exhibition hybrid tea.
Awards and recognition Received the Most Fragrant Rose Award at the Hamilton New Zealand Rose Trial Garden in 1998, highlighting its strong, lasting scent for both garden enjoyment and cutting use.
Growth and structural characteristics Upright, compact shrub 80–110 cm tall and 60–90 cm wide, with dense, slightly glossy dark green foliage and very few prickles, giving a refined, manageable plant for borders or containers.
Flower morphology Very double rosette blooms with over 40 petals, usually borne singly on stems; extra-large flowers exceeding 10 cm make it particularly suitable for cutting and focal garden planting positions.
Colour data and phenology Light pink flowers (ARS LP; RHS 65C outer, 65D inner) opening mid pink then fading to a pale, almost whitish pink; colour retention is modest, with soft pastel tones throughout the blooming phase.
Fragrance and aroma Features a strong, long-lasting scent ranked highly in trials, making it attractive for planting near seating, entrances and paths, and for use as a cut flower where perfume is especially valued.
Hip characteristics Rose hips form only occasionally because of the very double blooms; where present they are typically rounded, about 12–18 mm in diameter, and have little impact on overall ornamental effect.
Resistance and winter hardiness Medium resistance to powdery mildew, black spot and rust; hardy to around −15 to −12 °C (RHS H6, Swedish Zone 2, USDA 7b), performing reliably in most mild, maritime Irish garden conditions.
Horticultural recommendations Best in sunny sites with well-drained, enriched soil; space 55 cm for mass plantings, 45 cm for hedges, 85 cm for specimens; maintenance is moderate with periodic deadheading and plant protection.

MYRIAM™ – light pink hybrid tea rose COCgrand offers strongly scented XL blooms, a compact, almost thornless habit and durable own-root growth for years of gentle enjoyment, making it a thoughtful choice for your next planting decision.

Information about the videos
The video series is not a “seasonal showcase”, but makes the essence of pharmaROSA® own-root production tangible: how the plant is built, what the root system is like and how the shoots renew themselves. The footage was therefore taken at different times, showing plants at different stages of development, so mixed leaf coverage or differing growth stages may appear in the videos. This is not a “sample” of the batch delivered, but an illustration of how the technology works. The current condition of the rose available to order — typical of the given period and similar to what you can expect to receive in the parcel — is shown at the top of the product page.
