CHEERFULNESS – apricot bedding floribunda rose – pharmaROSA®

If You enjoy a soft garden glow even on damp days, CHEERFULNESS offers clusters of warm apricot rosettes that shrug off showers and keep blooming steadily through our cool Irish summers, with blossoms that gently self-renew so there is very little to tidy. This floribunda’s bushy habit and dense mid-green foliage help it hold its shape with limited pruning, while its medium maintenance needs stay manageable even if You are busy. Planted from a pharmaROSA® ORIGINAL 2-litre own-root pot, it quietly builds strength underground before showing more top growth, then reaches full garden impact over the following seasons for a long, dependable life. The very double, rosette blooms fade from rich apricot to creamy pastel shades, bringing a “girly” cottage feel that suits both country borders and Dublin terraces, and its good disease resistance means fewer spray routines in a wet, fungi-prone climate.

Usage options

Target area Reasoning
Front-of-border cottage bed The bushy, upright shape and dense foliage give a tidy, traditional look without constant clipping, while the softly changing apricot-to-cream flowers suit relaxed cottage schemes over a long season for beginners.
Dublin terraced front garden Compact spread and steady height make it easy to place beside a path or railing; repeat clusters of rosette blooms add colour most of the summer with only occasional deadheading, ideal for busy homeowners.
Low flowering hedge along a drive Regular, even growth and good branching allow informal hedging at about a metre high; recommended spacings make it straightforward to design a neat line with medium care needs for practical gardeners.
Feature group in a lawn or gravel bed Planted in a small group, the medium-height shrubs quickly read as a single glowing apricot mass, with self-cleaning flowers keeping the display fresh in showery weather for effect-seekers.
Container on patio or balcony (40–50 L+) The floribunda habit flowers well in a large pot, provided drainage and watering are reliable; an own-root plant in a 40–50 litre container offers stable structure and long service for urban gardeners.
Mixed bed with perennials and grasses Its calm, mid-green foliage and rosette flowers act as an anchor between airy companions like tall verbena and daisies, while the colour shift from apricot to butter-yellow blends easily for design-conscious buyers.
Family garden focal point near seating The moderate height and rounded outline make it easy to position by a bench or patio, with light, unobtrusive fragrance and long flowering giving gentle interest without dominating for family users.
Small garden specimen by the front door As an own-root shrub that builds roots first, then shoots, then full ornamental value, it offers a reassuringly long-lived “welcome home” feature that copes well with rain and fungal pressure for long-term planners.

Styling ideas

  • Cottage-Romantic – Combine CHEERFULNESS with peach-leaved bellflower and oxeye daisies for a relaxed, pastel Irish cottage border – ideal for lovers of soft, nostalgic gardens.
  • Terrace-Ribbon – Run a low line along a Dublin terrace rail with clipped box behind, letting the apricot rosettes provide colour while the bushy habit keeps the outline neat – suited to city-front gardeners.
  • Apricot-Drift – Plant a loose drift in a gravel bed with tall verbena weaving through, using its self-cleaning blooms to keep the look fresh with little fuss – perfect for low-maintenance seekers.
  • Doorstep-Accent – Place a single shrub in a generous clay pot by the front steps, relying on repeat flowering and compact structure to give a cheerful welcome – good for space-limited homeowners.
  • Lawn-Island – Create a small island bed of three to five plants in the lawn, where the dense foliage and rounded form read as a single glowing feature – appealing to those wanting simple impact.

Technical cultivar profile
Parameter Data
Name and registration CHEERFULNESS – apricot bedding floribunda rose, floribunda shrub type for beds and borders; trade name Cheerfulness Bedding rose pharmaROSA®, commercial bedding rose in the floribunda group.
Origin and breeding Discovered in Germany in 2008, with parentage unknown; introduced commercially by PharmaRosa® Ltd. in 2015 as an own-root garden rose, bred and selected for decorative bedding and group planting.
Awards and recognition Recognised at European trials: Baden-Baden City of Zweibrücken Award 2015, Rose of Madrid 2015, and First Silver Medal 2015, confirming strong ornamental performance in formal assessments.
Growth and structural characteristics Bushy floribunda shrub rose, typically 100–140 cm high with a 65–95 cm spread; moderately spiny shoots carry dense, glossy mid-green foliage that clothes the plant effectively from base to tip.
Flower morphology Medium-sized, 4–7 cm, very double rosette blooms with over 40 petals; produced in clustered inflorescences with remontant repeat, giving a generous second flush after the main early-summer display.
Colour data and phenology Warm apricot overall (RHS 11C outer, 14B inner), buds deep apricot yellow; blooms fade through creamy butter-yellow to near-white edges, with colour retention moderate under sun and rain exposure.
Fragrance and aroma Fragrance is very weak and airy, barely perceptible in most conditions; grown primarily for visual effect rather than scent, making it suitable where strong perfume would be intrusive or unwelcome.
Hip characteristics Only slight hip production expected; occasional small spherical orange-red hips (RHS N34A), about 8–12 mm in diameter, may form late season, generally of minor ornamental impact in typical gardens.
Resistance and winter hardiness Hardy to approximately −21 to −18 °C (USDA 6b, RHS H7); good resistance to powdery mildew and black spot, medium for rust, with moderate heat tolerance and need for watering in prolonged drought.
Horticultural recommendations Best in sunny, well-drained soil; medium maintenance with occasional plant protection. Spacing 50–100 cm depending on use, 2.8–3.2 plants/m² for mass planting; suitable for beds, groups, edging and containers.

CHEERFULNESS – apricot bedding floribunda rose – offers long-season colour, self-renewing blooms and a bushy, durable own-root structure; an easy, reassuring choice if You want lasting charm with modest care.

Information about the videos
The video series is not a “seasonal showcase”, but makes the essence of pharmaROSA® own-root production tangible: how the plant is built, what the root system is like and how the shoots renew themselves. The footage was therefore taken at different times, showing plants at different stages of development, so mixed leaf coverage or differing growth stages may appear in the videos. This is not a “sample” of the batch delivered, but an illustration of how the technology works. The current condition of the rose available to order — typical of the given period and similar to what you can expect to receive in the parcel — is shown at the top of the product page.
