BLISSY – pale pink flowerbed shrub rose

Like a short walk under soft rain, BLISSY brings cheerful colour and light to compact Irish gardens, its open, pink blooms with a dark eye welcoming bees even in blustery weather near the Atlantic. This bushy, compact shrub sits happily in small front gardens and cottage-style beds, offering long, repeat flowering with semi-double blooms that shed spent petals gradually for an always-tidy look. On its own roots it develops steadily over time – first strengthening below ground, then building shoots, and by the third year reaching full garden presence with dense, mid-green foliage. Moderately thorny but well-behaved, BLISSY fits easily into family spaces, thriving in our cool, damp climate with good disease tolerance and dependable hardiness. In a 2‑litre pot it settles reliably into borders or 40–50 litre containers, giving you gentle fragrance, soft colour shifts and pollinator-friendly blooms from early summer well into autumn.

Usage options

Target areaReasoning
Front garden flowerbed BLISSY’s bushy, compact habit and 70–95 cm height make it ideal for a smart, low-maintenance front border where you want structure without blocking light. Regular clusters of pink flowers with a dark eye create cheerful kerb appeal for busy homeowners.
Cottage-style mixed border The semi-double, open blooms are specifically attractive to pollinators, helping bees and hoverflies move through your cottage-style planting. Plant among perennials to enjoy a long season of colour that supports wildlife for nature‑minded gardeners.
Low flowering hedge Recommended spacing of 50 cm allows BLISSY to knit into a low, informal hedge with dense mid-green foliage. The compact, bushy growth and repeat flowering provide a soft boundary that looks good from both sides for family‑garden owners.
Feature plant in small bed Used as a specimen at about 100 cm spacing, BLISSY’s vivid pink flowers with a crimson eye draw the eye without dominating a small space. Its moderate self-cleaning keeps the display presentable with minimal deadheading for beginner gardeners.
Urban front garden container In a 40–50 litre container with good drainage, BLISSY brings reliable colour to paved or gravel front gardens. Own‑root vigour and hardy top growth help it cope with cool, damp, sheltered city spots where fungal pressure can be higher for city‑dwelling gardeners.
Repeat-flowering bed planting The remontant habit with a plentiful second flush means your bed does not peak once and fade, but keeps sending out waves of blossom through a short Irish summer, even when the weather turns unsettled and cool, suiting colour‑loving buyers.
Cool-climate family garden Rated to about –26 °C with an H7 hardiness rating, this rose shrugs off typical Irish winters. Own‑root growth offers long-term stability and easier recovery if stems are damaged, giving peace of mind to long‑term planners.
Pollinator-friendly planting strip The flat, open flowers with exposed stamens are easy for bees to use, and their vivid colouring helps insects find them quickly while you enjoy soft, subtle fragrance at nose height, making a welcoming strip for fragrance‑oriented gardeners.

Styling ideas

  • Cottage-Ribbon – weave BLISSY through a narrow cottage border with foxgloves and hardy geraniums to create a soft, wildlife-friendly edge – ideal for traditional front‑garden enthusiasts
  • Bee-Path – line a path with groups of BLISSY, underplanting with low thyme to guide visitors and pollinators towards your door – perfect for nature‑focused families
  • Urban-Jewel – plant BLISSY in a 50 litre terracotta pot with trailing ivy around the base for colour and privacy on a small city terrace – suited to balcony and courtyard owners
  • Soft-Hedge – use BLISSY in a loose, flowering hedge mixed with lavender and Carex morrowii to divide play areas from seating space – great for relaxed family gardens
  • Pocket-Border – combine BLISSY with Clematis ‘Sweet Morning’ and dwarf grasses in a tiny front bed for long-season colour and movement – ideal for compact terraced homes

Technical cultivar profile
ParameterData
Name and registration BLISSY is a hybrid Hulthemia persica shrub rose, marketed as a bedding flowerbed rose within the Rósra bhláthchlóis commercial group, offered here as an own‑root pharmaROSA® ORIGINAL plant.
Origin and breeding Parentage details are unknown; the cultivar was discovered and selected by pharmaROSA®, with initial distribution by PharmaRosa® Ltd. Hungary, and introduced to the wider European garden market thereafter.
Growth and structural characteristics Forms a bushy, compact shrub approximately 70–95 cm tall and 50–75 cm wide, with dense, mid‑green, slightly glossy foliage and moderate prickliness, giving good garden presence without overwhelming smaller spaces.
Flower morphology Semi-double, flat blooms with about 17–20 petals, arranged in clusters of 3–5 per stem; medium-sized flowers 4–7 cm across, produced repeatedly with a notably generous second flush in suitable conditions.
Colour data and phenology Vivid pink petals (RHS 56C outer, 36D inner) surrounding a dark crimson to burgundy eye; colour fades gently to pale mauve‑pink yet retains centre contrast, ensuring ornament from bud stage through to petal fall.
Fragrance and aroma Offers a mild, subtle scent with a soft character noticeable at close range rather than across the garden, providing gentle fragrance without overwhelming nearby seating or small enclosed courtyards.
Hip characteristics Occasionally forms small, spherical rose hips about 5–8 mm across, turning red (RHS 40A) later in the season, adding a discreet seasonal accent without significantly reducing flowering performance.
Resistance and winter hardiness Hardy to approximately –26 to –23 °C (H7, USDA 5b), with good resistance to powdery mildew, moderate black spot tolerance and rust resistance, performing reliably in cool, damp Atlantic-influenced climates.
Horticultural recommendations Best in well-drained soil with good air movement; allow 50–100 cm spacing depending on use, use mulch on heavier clays, and plan mass plantings at around 2.8–3.2 plants per square metre for full coverage.

BLISSY Bedding rose pharmaROSA® offers compact, hardy structure, pollinator-friendly repeat flowering and the long, steady performance of an own-root shrub, making it a thoughtful choice for enduring colour in Irish family gardens.

Information about the videos
The video series is not a “seasonal showcase”, but makes the essence of pharmaROSA® own-root production tangible: how the plant is built, what the root system is like and how the shoots renew themselves. The footage was therefore taken at different times, showing plants at different stages of development, so mixed leaf coverage or differing growth stages may appear in the videos. This is not a “sample” of the batch delivered, but an illustration of how the technology works. The current condition of the rose available to order — typical of the given period and similar to what you can expect to receive in the parcel — is shown at the top of the product page.
